DETAILS: Please join the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center as a computed tomography (CT) scan is performed on a recently- discovered New Mexico shark fossil.

The discovery of the of the Ctenacanth (spiny) shark fossil in the Manzano Mountains on May 21, 2013 is unprecedented. This type of shark has never been found in New Mexico, and it is the first time a complete body of this type of shark has ever been found in North America. This is presently the best-preserved Ctenacanth shark in the world.

Presbyterian Rust Medical Center is pleased to offer its facility to give museum researchers a more in-depth view of the shark. This CT scan will provide a more complete view of the internal brain case structure of the shark.

Attendees can see the fossil from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A short program will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the CT scan at 10:30 a.m. Museum officials will be available for interviews after the scan is complete.
