Presbyterian Partners With Rio Rancho Public Schools To Promote Healthy Living

Release Date:

September 28, 2016

RIO RANCHO, N.M. – Presbyterian Healthcare Services is partnering with Rio Rancho Public Schools to promote healthy living as part of its annual Day of Service, a statewide event to help schoolchildren learn how fun it can be to stay active and eat healthy food.

In Rio Rancho, 48 Presbyterian leaders will spend the day at one of three Rio Rancho elementary schools – Martin Luther King Jr., Rio Rancho or Ernest Stapleton – encouraging students to join in the fun, which includes stretching, dancing and learning about healthy food.

“Presbyterian’s Day of Service is an important part of our commitment to improve the health of the communities we serve,” said Angela Ward, Campus Administrator, Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, “We love being able to visit the schools and encourage kids to learn lifelong behaviors that will allow them to live healthier lives.”

Dr. V. Sue Cleveland, Superintendent of Rio Rancho Public Schools stated, “We understand the value of promoting healthy lifestyles and appreciate Presbyterian’s willingness to reach out to our students and schools.”

Day of Service is one example of the close ties that have developed between Presbyterian employees and local schools since the hospital opened in 2011. Over the past two years, Presbyterian Rust Medical Center employees have supplied weekend backpacks filled with healthy snacks to low-income children at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. On average, they provide enough supplies for 150 backpacks per week.

Check out more than 100 hot rods, muscle cars and motorcycles. Admission is FREE.
